there is a major technical issue with renewable energy, i.e. how do you generate renewable energy on demand. I.e. if the sun isn't shinning, the wind blowing, etc. Current methods for storing renewable energy rely on battery technology and the total cost coupled with the "efficiency" of current battery technology more than offset any savings from the generation of renewable energy.
