fouls. The guard seldom lets the screener get set and doesn't rub his defender off on the screen. They always leave too much room. The screener is either still moving or leans to try to pick the defense off. I'd say 75% of the illegal screen calls are the fault of the guard and not the screener.
Then, if a foul doesn't get called, after setting the screen the screener doesn't roll with the ball to the basket, effectively pinning the screened defensive guy behind him. He usually turns away from the ball and runs blindly towards the basket. That puts him behind the defense most of the time. It takes away the quick bounce pass if the screener's man tries to pick up the guard.
It's maddening watching teams try to run a pick and roll anymore. It's even more maddening knowing some high paid coaches are sitting there watching it and don't do anything to correct it.
