I didn't realize my kid put a lost tooth under his pillow once because he didn't alert anyone he lost it, so the tooth fairy didn't really come. And once my daughter clearly told Santa Claus what she wanted but didn't let anyone in the family in on that information.

Its no fun at all when others have that kind of a revelation because of something you have been involved in misleading them on. I felt terrible in both instances, and still do honestly.
