lose some of the protections that they currently enjoy.

They cannot claim that they are a free format for the exchange of ideas and therefore exempt from responsibility for the content found on their sites while at the same time deciding what views they will host.

Give up the protections and they can edit all they want. But with the protections in place they should allow a free flow of ideas.
