and unless he explicitly was a threat to self or others, how were they going to prevent? I can see where you keep people who are diagnosed psychotic away from weapons, but where is the line drawn? Do you restrict people on antidepressants? What about those who have some kind of violence in their background? How about simply those who seek psychotherapy and are considered the worried well? I see today where people are calling for keeping weapons away from the mentally ill who have no idea what they’re talking about or how to do this. It’s like a popular catchphrase. Doing background checks well and having them be meaningful is very complicated.
