Gilliam, a native of Paris, Mo., had a very successful tenure as an Assistant Basketball Coach to Kim Anderson at the Pittsburg State University. In his first season on staff (2017-18) Gilliam helped the Lions to a 17-13, a 12 win improvement from the previous season, which was the 5th best improvement at all levels in college basketball.
During Gilliam’s second season (2018-19) with the Gorillas he helped them get off to a 13-3 start, which was the best start in the program in the last 10 years.
--But then he was suspended and later fired for racial insults hurled at opposing coaches, and the team went 4-10 down the stretch.
