that's what I thought after I saw it. I was looking forward to it, even after reading the synopsis before going it wasn't quite what I expected, but I enjoyed it.
I feel like his movies are just kind of outlets for his demented fantasies-but at least they aren't remakes of movies made 20 years ago. Don't agree that the acting is something special, Brad Pitt never seems to take the movie seriously (which is fine.) I thought the best acting was small part by Bruce Dern. Overall the film is more silly than anything.
I get what people say about recreating the period but there are some obvious flaws if you're looking for them (like the Cadillac they drive around in having a cracked steering wheel and an interior that looks 20 years old when it should be a 3 year old car, etc.)
