i think the shack can live on in this vegetative state forever. look at the wall st. board, the poker board, and the all sports boards. there's no logical explanation for any of those to be alive, yet they still live. we're not far from a time when the shack is the kind of board that has several days worth of posts on one page, but it will still get a random post here and there.
causes for the decline (in no particular order):
- no moderation - trolls and retards can easily hijack decent threads and take over the board which just drives everyone else away. those who stay try to add some level of control through mobbings and such, but those aren't effective. when the good people leave and all that's left is tboner, you get what we have now.
- people "aging out" - there are windows in everyone's career and life when they have time to sit around and do nothing all day and get away with it. for a lot of folks those are early career, no kids, etc. then real job responsibilities and home demands pull you away. for others it's later career when you have a staff to do your bidding.
- ****ty sports - the last few years haven't exactly been the golden age of mizzou sports. that's always been the main driver of traffic - people wanting to talk about mizzou sports. after a few months of fiji's bull**** on the basketball board or some turd *****ing about protests on the football board, it's pretty easy to just lose interest. the shack suffers from that lack of interest.
- other places to find a community of people with similar interests. reddit, facebook, farmersonly.com, whatever. there's no shortage of online communities out there.
- no images - thank's eggs!
