mostly to "normalize rates" in a very good economy. One could argue the Fed went too far too fast, but they put out a road map and stuck to it. Then Trump intervened more, put more economical risk around trade, and then went after the Fed.

The Fed then became wishy washy, sent various signals, and reluctantly (in my opinion) reduce rates.
