Ayo and Giorgi were the 2 of the top 3 leading scorers last year as freshmen. Frazier was second as a sophomore. Giorgi became a very good scorer. He broke the UI single game scoring record for a freshman with 35. Had been Deon Thomas’ record.
Three of the top six freshman scorers in UI history are on the team and a year older. Andres Feliz is a beast. Tough Dominican who came on strong the second half of the season. 7-0, 290 Kofi Cockburn is the center and a former 5 star recruit from New York City. Alan Griffin and Tevian Jones are talented sophomores. Griffin seems to be breaking out this year. 48% three point shooter in high school for New York City state champs. Damonte Williams, Frank’s son, is an experienced guard. Who knows what Illinois will get from Kipper Nichols. He literally can score 30 or go scoreless. He has done both.
Watch out for 6-9, 235 Bosnans-Verdonk from Belgium. Played for the Belgian junior national team and shot 40% from international three point line.
Illinois has size up front (7-0 Kofi and 6-10 Giorgi) and a deep stable of talented guards. Ayo is a projected first round draft pick.
Kofi and Feliz are not on the current Italy tour. Like Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Rutgers and some others, there were visa problems from some of the foreign born players.
Should be a good game with Missouri.
