The goal isn't to collect increased tariff taxes. The goal is to damage the Chinese economy by generating disincentive on the part of American owned business to purchase goods made in China. If these tariffs proceed and business between the two nations disintegrates our economy will decouple from China's. As the more established, more vibrant, more diversified economy, owner of the world's only universal currency and having the number one consumer base the U.S. is in a far better position to emerge intact from this conflict. The Chinese need us more than we need them.
