Advice for the socialist candidates. Reject reparations. If

a democrat wants to get elected, he/she should have the courage to look their constituents in the eye and tell them that reparations are immoral, impractical, impossible to administer and a(other) liberal waste of billions of tax dollars so they can feel good about themselves.
Look at the change, the walking back, of the absurdity of their open borders and medicare for all pandering. The healthcare position of the most extreme socialists will be difficult to walk back. But after cong'man delaney had the courage to say that "we don't want to make it illegal to keep your current healthcare" (paraphrasing) others have tip-toed up to the line and said similar things.
Imagine if kamal-toe or spartacus said, "Ladies and gentlemen, the sins of slavery were visited upon black people in this country and the vestiges of that horrible institution can be felt and seen even today. But it is time to move forward. We must recognize and acknowledge the past but not dwell on it. Reparations will make us feel good for a few minutes or a few years but they will not accomplish anything and the money spent on it cannot possibly be allocated fairly and properly. So while i am certainly among the first to acknowledge the evils of slavery, i will be the first on this stage to say that it's time to forget the folly of reparations and move to ensure that from this point forward, fairness and equality will be the hallmarks of this great nation."
Something like that.
Lots of mods and indies would let out a collective, "WHEW, I glad she said that. Now i can vote for her."
There is zero chance of that happening, because that die is cast. Reparations are a part of the socialist playbook. They cannot walk that back. They cannot undo the "blacks as victims" position they have staked out for decades. Once again, what the socialists SHOULD do and what they WILL do are diametrically opposites.
It would take too much courage. And too much common sense.
