Is anyone else surprised Parker is a DE?

I understand there are depth issue at DE, but he was a great blocker and between him and Albert O formed a great two TE package. Combine that with a lack of experience at WR and our desire to run the ball more with our overall depth at RB and KB running the show, it just seemed like a natural fit to leave him at TE.
I don't know if it is a testament to Christopherson, Swinson, and Scales or just a genuine lack of depth and skill at the DE position. I guess it is Odom's way of getting the best 22 on the field.
Maybe Parker will see the field in short yardage and goal line situations on offense and passing downs on D.
What do you guys think?
