Why did Trump get a pass on 2nd Amendment?

After all the outrage that Obama was coming to take the guns, Trump said he would on live television. Added in he wouldn't even go through due process.

So, I know the right really cares about their gun rights being infringed upon. Here you had a sitting President said he would take the guns now, and due process later. Now, those that say Trump is treated more harshly than Obama, do you think this would've been dismissed under Obama? Because he never said anything close to this, but was treated like he did..
