credible accusations when he hears them.
He knew the steele dossier was a lie and he pursued it anyway. I am not willing to infer ANY patriotic (apologies to The Idiot) motives to that slime ball.
There are steps to take prior to spying on a candidate for president of the united states. One might be to verify the source document for the accusations and know that it was a total fabrication. And it came from the opposing political camp. The camp that comey supported.
The short answer to your question, with many loopholes, is that spying on a presidential candidate might be the exact right thing to do. If we had a non partisan patriot running the operation and there were legitimate reasons to fear for the future of the republic, there may be circumstances where that action would be appropriate.
But my question to el-areola was specific to this one particular case and what is known about it. My special circumstances listed above do not apply here.
