“I think it’s tough at first, just kind of hard to get used to just because of course, this is what you’ve done your whole life. ... Not being hurt and there’s nothing physically that’s holding you back on the sideline, I think that’s tough,” he said Friday while sitting in Mizzou Arena’s practice gym. “But after you get over that, I think it’s a good thing. I enjoy being able to get in here and work and there’s no real pressure on you, like you can just come in here and put hours in and just do your best to get better.”
“I’m just excited to get out there with these guys, just to be in that game atmosphere. ... It’s just been a long time,” he said. ”... I feel like I’ve been waiting. I feel like it’s much longer than a year since I’ve played.”
“I think maybe the only thing that I want to try to bring is just kind of a calming presence or a sense of experience, just helping out there wherever I can,” Smith said.
