City Marshall in 1938. It was a very rough town with ruffians and thugs roaming the streets and running off the Town Marshalls. Gin owners and store merchants had a meeting to discuss it and one man said,

"I know a man in O'Keane, Arkansas they won't run off."

So they agreed he should drive over to O'Kean and hire him on the spot. And he did, then immediately loaded his gear in a bob-truck and returned to Holcomb.
