Classic bait and switch. Steele wasn't the source of the information, he was just the retailer. The alleged sources were second and third hand to him. There was no way Comey and his small group of conspirators could confirm any of the detailed allegations. Better to prop it all up with the claim that Steele was a trusted CI with a reliable track record in other matters.
