Sounds like this guy may have cheated on his wife before, so the wife is concerned about him being alone with other women.

If he wants to respect his wife and OTHER WOMEN, he doesn't tell this woman (reporter) that she is unable to do the same task that a male reporter could do. The candidate can accomplish that level of respect by simply having HIS staffer (or wife) accompany them - and this would be a non-story.
