but throughout social media. I'm older, so I'm of the generation that tends to respect the flag, opposes kneeling, sometimes sings the national anthem, certainly takes the hat off, etc. The younger folks tend not to take that stuff as seriously. Not as indoctrinated in them, I guess, but are more skeptical about it.
I see folks get offended by the perceived lack of patriotism, which I believe is a generational thing. But what is more American than free speech? Even if that offends us? So, "faux patriotism" is my description of being offended by acts that one may consider unpatriotic and wrapping your complaint up in the idea that somehow we're more American in them, just because we express it differently.
