AND keeping a decent number of them for 4 years? We compare very poorly to the elite teams.
Oklahoma built a dynasty with Rickets and Paige Parker, two 4 year starters and aces.
Florida has a string of high quality aces all out of high school and all pitching 4 years thru their senior seasons:
Rogers 2011-14
Haeger 2012-15
Gourley 2014-17
Ocasio 2015-18
Barnhill 2016-19
That’s all during the 10 straight seasons that Mizzou didn’t recruit a single high school pitcher who stayed all 4 years, high quality or not.
Too many other examples to list. Do some teams benefit from and shore up their pitching staffs through transfers also, like Oklahoma? You bet they do. But a common characteristic of many of the best teams is the core of their pitching comes from 4 year high school recruits.
It’s been a gaping hole for Mizzou for a decade now. And turning that around is a key to Coach Anderson’s long term success here. That’s all my post was about. Despite an attempt by the usual few whiners and hangers on to make this all about EE.
