told him after the diagnosis. I'm paraphrasing; but the doc had said about the seriousness of his diagnosis: "Gary, you can die on a practice field with a whistle around your neck or you can die on your boat down at the lake. It's your choice" He retired shortly afterword. What an honor for us all to have seen his career flourish and end at Mizzou. Quite a coach. I have great memories from that Gary Pinkel autographed football on my mantel. He took us to amazing heights and sustained it. He knew quarterbacks and he could spot the ones that had "it". He knew good coaches. Prayers for him and his family.
