for the long term health of the program.

"Tilmon, who Frazier said is now a Missouri mouthpiece for prospective college basketball players in the area."
Under Cuonzo we are highly slanted towards the St. Louis market for talent. In a lot of ways, Tilmon was to Cuonzo like John Brown was to Norm in that he was a national level player that stayed home and made it cool and legit to consider MU. Norm used that Brown signing to build the program to the point it could land a guy like Stipo, and the rest was history.
Thus far Tilmon has a wildly frustrating playing career of unrealized potential. If he ends up leaving after this season for an overseas professional career without earning a degree and without becoming a big basketball success story it changes what could have been a huge asset into a perceived strike against the program. I think in a lot of ways it is imperative that Tilmon blossoms as a player this year and becomes dominant, mostly for macro reasons beyond the scope of this seasons on the court results. The necessary talent may dry up on the program with another poor season overall.
