Question below speculated if MU would accept Financial Penalties in exchange for a removal of post-season ban. I'm not sure MU is in a position to accept or negotiate.
My recall is the NCAA mandates that "a majority" of penalty categories be applied from the Penalty Matrix for Level 1 Violations. MU already stipulated to Level 1 categorization.
The 7 Categories are:
1. Post-season Ban
2. Financial Penalties
3. Scholarship Reduction
4. Show-case Order
5. Heach Coach restrictions
6. Recruiting Visit restrictions
7. Probation
The NCAA applied penalties from 5 of the 7 categories: all except the Show Cause Order and the Head Coach Restrictions Categories.
Best case scenario for MU is the categories get reduced from 5 to 4 - that would still be a majority of the penalty categories.
The most devastating is clearly the Post-Season Ban because of the financial implications of missing out on that portion of SEC Bowl allocations - around $9 million.
I think MU would be ecstatic to give up Financial Penalties ($5k per sport and up to 1% of sport-specific revenue) in exchange for a removal of the Bowl Ban.
The Bowl Ban is the killer and, if kept in place, will have real financial implications for MU non-revenue sports for years to come.
