With a complaint that non revenue sports like baseball and softball are “a drain on the athletic department.
To me that’s a perspective that pretends to be completely ignorant of the college sports ecosystem. Having multiple sports opportunities for men AND women enriches the university experience for the student athletes and fans. By the very nature of each sport, not every team plays every game or match in front of 50,000 plus fans, or in prime time on ESPN.
The obscene revenue generated by football and men’s BB, and revenue from major conferences, drives the athletic budgets at every school. Looking at it that way, the vast majorities of athletic teams, both men’s and women’s, at every college at every level in the country are a “drain on the budget”. So freaking what? Should those sports disappear because they aren’t generating enough income?
I’m not clear what the point of the original poster is, or what his/her conclusions are or suggestions.
