They cannot both be true.
They have said it adamantly enough and often enough that it cannot be a mistake.
Do you believe that one of them is lying? Or have you somehow convinced yourself that they are both telling the truth?
Or thirdly, since you have no logical basis for your position, just call it a kerfuffle, or pretend you don’t know or care about it, and move on.
I doubt you will answer those questions, but it would be fascinating to see you twist yourself into a logical pretzel and concoct some Bizzarre rationale for your statements here.
