done rule will be going away, but there will still be some one and done players. Just not as many because several will go straight to the NBA. The one and done player just won't be nearly as big of a topic because the biggest headliners will already be in the NBA.
Right now, there are 37 freshman declared for the NBA. Some will probably pull out, but we know that most will stay in the draft. I'd estimate that a minimum of 25 will stay in and it's probably more than that.
If the one and done rule goes away, I'd guess 10, maybe 15 kids go straight pro in a good year. In a typical year, that probably still leaves around 20 kids that end up playing one year of college ball and entering the draft.
Back to my point, yes Duke and UK will still recruit the highest level remaining players, but the question is depending on the timing will they have a light load of remaining players and have a setback year as they reload with second tier kids instead of top 20 kids? Will it not matter? I agree that, eventually, classes probably get smaller as they shouldn't have to reload quite as much each year.
Going back, UK's signing classes were 5-5-7-6-7 kids.
Eliminating some of the one and dones has to cut into that, but it may mean their average class is 5 instead of 6.
