Not necessarily. But free high school and free college are pretty darned close versions of socialism to one another.

There is zero chance that 100+ years of public education has aided untold people to live a better life than they otherwise might have?
This is a classic "That Which is Seen, That Which is Not Seen" dilemma. You should read this work by Frederic Bastiat. You're asking questions that cannot be answered because we cannot know the true cost of diverting so many resources to public education.

That sounds like the opposite of govt. In fact, you've set forth an example of why govt is not needed to create schools.
