1. Northwestern
2. Texas

These are both a joke in terms of competitive balance. Didn’t have to be that way.

In a perfectly balanced S curve type of seeding, the 1 seed would get the 32nd best team, 2 seed the 31st best, and so on, with the 16 seed getting the 17th best team. Most of the other regionals are balanced very close to this. These 2 regionals don’t even come remotely close.

As the 16 seed, NW should get the 17th best team or something very close to that. But the 2 seed in their regional is Louisville, which ended with an RPI rank of 36. That’s disgraceful. They could have easily put either Drake or Georgia in Evanston, but instead sent both of them to Minneapolis.

Texas is nearly as bad. As the 9 seed, they should have a team around 24th best in their regional. Instead, they get 39 Houston. Plus 50 TAMU.

Frankly, I was hoping we would get placed with NW, as we would have had a decent chance to beat them. But it wouldn’t have been balanced either. We finished with an RPI rank today of 32. We ended up getting sent where we should have in a balanced S curve seeding, at 2 seed UCLA, which should get a team around 31.
