OK had the weirdest thing happen last night

had a thunderstorm (which is rare enough as it is)

But I saw a yuge flash of light out my window and almost
simultaneously all the smoke detectors beeped and then
almost right after that the loudest crack of thunder I've ever heard.

Never heard of lightning setting off batteries before.
