they can be manipulated to serve any argument. Obama had the misfortune of inheriting a down economy and the good fortune (numbers-wise) to be able to claim the recovery. Trump has had to grow from a higher point - it doesn't make it less or more remarkable.

Same with performance relative to world emerging markets. If you look at the asset class of the investments returning the highest annual returns, it's rarely the same for more than a couple of years. Money flows to where people can get the biggest returns or the safest ones, depending on their optimism.
