Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded about 12:30 a.m. Saturday to an apartment complex in Aliso Viejo after a gunman opened fire from a truck three to four times at a group of people, Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jim Cota said. No one was struck by the gunfire.
Investigators concluded McGuinness was a suspect, so Laguna Beach police were asked to help arrest him there, Cota said.
Police located the truck used in the attack and determined that the type of gun used in the shooting was like one registered to the suspect, Cota said. Police put the suspect under surveillance and arrested him emerging from his residence in the 31000 block of Holly Drive with a gun in his hand, Cota alleged.
McGuinness was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and illegal discharge of a firearm with negligence. The motivation for the attack was not immediately released.
