They argue that their parents generation took out $30k in loans to get a starting job of $20k. They are taking out $100k in loans to get a $40k per year job in many cases. Wages haven't kept pace with education costs, so therefore, they claim to need debt forgiveness or it's a form of indentured servitude.
Of course, their parents' dorms were pretty Spartan compared to the taj mahals that a lot of them live in - where they have community rooms with nicer furniture than some folks have in their homes - and it's ever escalating in terms of what campuses are expected to provide to attract students.
