Down syndrome continues to be the most common chromosomal disorder. Each year, about 6,000 babies are born with Down syndrome, which is about 1 in every 700 babies born.
Between 1979 and 2003, the number of babies born with Down syndrome increased by about 30%.

2) THOUSANDS of non-whites received Homestead Act land and the Act was NOT 'for white settlers only'.. the 1862 Homestead Act had no racial restrictions.... In fact, by 1872 the Act was updated, making it illegal to make a “distinction on account of race or color.” The intention of this update was to ensure that African Americans were allowed to homestead.
