If he is and if everyone agreed then it wouldn’t be controversial. It’s the reader and listener who creates the controversy, which is just an overreaction. A deliberate overreaction designed to manipulate people (as evident by bringing up his religion as some aegis)

If it were ignored, then it would just be an uninformed statement/opinion
