MOTHER OF 10 MONTH OLD BUILDS CHILDS IMMUNITY TO SECOND HAND SMOKE
Troy, MO- Troy Police have announced the arrest of Mary Burkemper (34 of Troy) earlier today for Child Abuse and Neglect.
Investigators were made aware that Burkemper was forcefully making her 10 month old child to smoke cigarettes due to a post on social media. Investigators further stated Burkemper played in a pool league two nights a week and had to take her child with her. She believed forcing her child to smoke cigarettes fought off the harmful effects of second hand smoking.
Burkemper told investigators, "I play pool at Maggie's Pool Hall in Troy two nights a week. I don't have a babysitter and the babies dad's in the Lincoln County Jail for passing bad checks. I'm a good mother and know second hand smoke is extremely harmful. That's why I started him off smoking. So he would build up a tolerance. I let him smoke Marbolo Lights, not the Reds. Its not like I'm trying to get him addicted to them."
Burkemper is being held in the Lincoln County Jail on $359 bond.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
