Socialized medicine is also much more effective if you can find some other country, like maybe the US, to front all of the costs for innovation and research and development.

The reason drug costs are low in other countries is that they all have price controls. Since the pharmaceutical industry is not a charity they simply pass those costs on to the country willing to pay them, US!
