the Versailes Treaty, poor economics in Germany, rampant anti-semitism and basically many people in Germany underestimating Hitler, the corporal and paper hanger, thinking they could use him. The army and politicians thought he would be useful until basically, he outsmarted them.

Though I have felt this country has been ready for a demagogue for years, the conditions still aren't similar. Your OP is interesting, scary, but interesting.
