are unfortunate rather thsn heroic.

But as i understand it, he was offered his release if he would do or say certain things. He refused.

Further, if I understand correctly, he could have been released ahead of his fellow prisoners, he declined. Assuming those are true, that’s pretty heroic i think.

He was a crappy senator, but I will not besmirch his military record.
