He is similar to Jason Sutherland (only he is a below avg defender), and MU fans similarly admired the concept of Sutherland. And similarly we went 18-15 to the NIT and then 16-17 and no postseason when Sutherland was leading our program.

In many of our wins, Geist is a main reason we win. But also in most of our losses, Geist is a main reason we lose. That is the kind of program you have when a player of that caliber is so important in the outcomes of your games. There is no question he has improved considerably. This team would be pretty crappy if he wasn't on it. But we also would never be good with Geist playing a major role either. He is the kind of player that bubble NIT type of programs have.
