interference with free makets so laws are not the solution. The gamble here is that responding in kind with our tariffs will be more painful to countries like China than it is to us in the shorter run. They will then lower/remove tariffs and we move toward free trade. China is hurting tremendously with the imposition of our tariffs. We will see how it works out. Early evidence with Canada was that tariff pain was a reason they renegotiated NAFTA.
