they could put solar panels on their parking lots
which would
1)provide the solar energy
2)provide shade and shelter from rain
3) not destroy any wildlife habitat

though it "might" cost a little more- though it might not once you consider the costs of the land and bulldozing etc.

I would agree with the sentiment that green projects don't destroy green spaces. There is always a better way
