1. They kept him too long. At the time he was hired, they acknowledged that he was a good guy to turn things around but that he was not the guy to take the next step. There should have been a succession plan in place for after 5 years of Larry.
2. Larry tried to eat with the big dogs before he was ready on the recruiting trail. He recruited a VERY good class in 1999, but he got that class because he was taking chances on guys the big dogs were passing on. And it cost him, and us, dearly. I don't recall exactly, but I think it was 19 kids out of that class never made it to campus due to grades, trouble, or other issues.
