WaPa and NYT are making bank. Huge profits, despite what the president says.
But many papers like the KC Star and STL Today waste too many resources on hard print journalism still and not digital. The number of people reading hard print papers is going down, but the eyes are just not on the Internet. Subscription based newspapers can work IF the content is worthwhile. Giving content away for free on digital, despite ads, doesn’t make much money.
