above average relatively affluent inner ring burg with our EXCELLENT (don't let anyone tell you differently) public school district in our liberal little weekly rag.
Overall the school district scores above the state average on the MAP tests (but of course we do), but the real crux of the story is how the stubborn achievement gap remains. It's pretty big in ELA and way big in math. Don't worry though, they have a task force working on it. The number of discipline incidents has dropped and they are working hard to hire more minority teachers. If we just throw enough time and money at it they will even out that achievement gap.
