and veggies are expensive.
I will never forget a few years back one of my students was telling her classmates that her family ate at McDonalds every night. That sounded crazy until I thought about it. You can feed a family of five from their dollar menu for about $15, that is less than it would cost to fix them an actual healthy meal. And it cut out the time for shopping, prep and cleanup. It was not a wise choice but you can see why many poor families working crazy shifts would find it an attractive option.
