The little adventures in Afghanistan and Iraq have cost us in excess of 5.9 Trillion dollars
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/14/us-has-spent-5point9-trillion-on-middle-east-asia-wars-since-2001-study.html
And what do we have to show for it? Hundreds of thousands dead, millions displaced, thousands of dead Americans, tens of thousands of Americans physically, emotionally, mentally maimed. For added bonuses we have empowered
Iran and Russia, opened the floodgates for heroin production, all while creating legions of terrorists who rightfully hate America. Fabulous.
Now in some bizarre alternate reality where we had charged and tried Bush and Cheney, (as well as The Clintons and Obama - and of course Trump) for their many crimes, what could we have done with that money? And perhaps saved a little money?
Well we could have provided clean renewable energy
FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD for 5 trillion dollars
https://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/2016/09/22/we-could-power-the-entire-world-by-harnessing-solar-energy-from-1-of-the-sahara/#35e958bad440
but wait there is more
how about potable water FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD for 150 billion
http://www.fao.org/in-action/agronoticias/detail/en/c/1036789/
but wait there is more
ending world hunger FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD for 267 billion
https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2015/07/how-much-would-it-cost-to-end-hunger/
but wait there is more
how about buying a hooked on phonics packet for the 770 million people who are illiterate since we are flush with
cash @ 200 bucks per head = 154 billion
(illiteracy costs the world economy 1.2 trillion yearly)
https://mic.com/articles/23873/illiteracy-costs-the-global-economy-1-trillion#.qyURwh6Pp
and if providing electricity, water, food and literacy to
world wasn't enough to prevent terrorism then perhaps we should might as well just end world poverty for a mere
187 billion.
https://www.politifact.com/global-news/statements/2017/feb/07/blog-posting/135-billion-enough-end-global-poverty-no/
so useless response to make terrorism worse =5.9 trillion
electricity, water, food, literacy and end of poverty
for the entire planet = 5.758 trillion
We could have saved 142 billion dollars!
But as a conservative I would never advocate just giving this to the world. Republigistians would oppose it because they are petty, selfish, shortsighted lacking in morals and principles. But they would be right. Just handing something to someone without a fair exchange, just ends up making the recipients resentful and criminal
(see welfare). There would have to be a fair exchange.
Isn't it just so Tigerboard that the very self proclaimed Christians that cheered and cheered and still think invading Afghanistan and Iraq were good actions would just positively wretch at the thought of helping the world?
Which brings us to the Green New Deal. All the singing and dancing of yesterday! So Tigerboard.Right now the Green New Deal is nothing more than some goals to discuss. And most of the goals are highly desirable:
Move America to 100% clean and renewable energy
who could argue against that?
Create millions of family supporting-wage, union jobs
who would oppose that?
Ensure a just transition for all communities and workers to
ensure economic security for people and communities that have
historically relied on fossil fuel industries
nothing wrong with that
Ensure justice and equity for frontline communities by
prioritizing investment, training, climate and community
resiliency, economic and environmental benefits in these
communities. who is not for that?
Build on FDR’s second bill of rights by guaranteeing:
A job with a family-sustaining wage, family and medical
leave, vacations, and retirement security
sounds good
High-quality education, including higher education and
trade schools sounds good
Clean air and water and access to nature sweet
Healthy food fantastic
High-quality health care nice
Safe, affordable, adequate housing fabulous
Economic environment free of monopolies laudable
Economic security for all who are unable or unwilling to work and here it falls apart because that is dead wrong.
But as I sagely noted yesterday the devil is in the details. I have seen nothing specific on how these goals are to be accomplished and that is where any debate should be centered. Instead our republigistian friends reject it wholesale because the very thought of a clean safe prosperous America for all is just anathema to them.
