the war at that time. But a few considerations:

(a) I wouldn't expect support for the war to match support for rationing and economic controls
(b) Propaganda was rampant and presumably effective on many
(c) The govt investigated, prosecuted and jailed people who were suspected of being disloyal (think that might have had a chilling effect?)

I'm not certain we have a fair way to really assess it today.
