In a socialist system the "means of production" is owned by the state, not by individuals. In socialism, private property ownership and rights are limited.
Under Capitalism, individuals own the means of production and have substantial property rights. In American agriculture, the means of production are privately owned, by individual firms and farmers. They are not owned or operated by the State.
In a socialist system the decisions of what to produce and how much to produce are made by the state, by the central authority and not by individuals. Under Capitalism, individuals through market mechanisms make the decisions on how much to produce.
In American Agriculture, the decisions of how much to produce, how resources will be used are made by individual firms and farms, again through market mechanisms.
Certain segments of American Agriculture are to some degree subsidized, i.e. some grain and milk production by various income/price support programs.
The purpose of these programs are two fold. One is to support farm incomes. And one is to insure Americans have a plentiful and cheap supply of food.
Bluntly, to assert American Agriculture is socialist simply informs the board that you don't know what your talking about.
