with few opportunities a chance to better themselves, get out of their crime ridden neighborhoods, introduce them to college and let them try to make something of their life. An opportunity they wouldn't have if you merely slap an SAT score requirement on admission. College sports opens a lot of doors for kids who don't have many avenues out of poverty.
